About the Camp
Since 1996, the Adolescent Health Initiative at United Way of Central WV has coordinated TI, with several community organizations, for young people primarily from Boone, Clay, Kanawha and Putnam Counties. TI follows a national framework aimed at helping young people become leaders around prevention of alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, violence and other critical decisions they face each day. In support the leadership aspect, youth who have previously attended Teen Institute help plan the regional event and serve as youth staff. During TI, participants attend workshops on a variety of health related topics and leadership, are involved in small discussion groups called family groups, and participate in fun activities.
Who is invited to attend Teen Institute?
Students from Boone, Clay, Kanawha and Putnam counties who have completed the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade are invited to apply to attend. Participation is limited to 70 students, so there is an application process. All participants are expected to be tobacco, e-cig, alcohol and drug free!
